Our first apartment had a kitchen stuck in the past - and our budget couldn’t catch up. Instead of a full reno, we gave it a facelift: painted the cabinets and floor, added new appliances, and reworked the layout. Several years after my grandpa passed, my grandma let me rummage through his old belongings and take anything. I left with his old wooden library chair and a sketchbook. The pages were empty except for the first.. with a sketch of a made bed in the corner of a room and a note, “to the new.” I was afraid to draw in it for years. Today I wrote him back. To the new, grandpa.
